We propose an Annex 1 to the FIFe Breeding and Registration rules, article 2.7.1 Test

programmes, listing commercially available genetic tests that are recommended before breeding.

The list shall be updated each year.

Annex 1:

Genetic tests recommended before breeding:

1. For PER, EXO (BRI): Feline polycystic kidney disease (PKD)

2. For MCO: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)

3. For MCO: Spinal muscular athrophy (SMA)

4. For NFO: Glycogen Storage Disease type IV (GSD IV)

5. For RAG: Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

6. For ABY, SOM: Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PK)

7. For ABY, SOM (OCI): Progressive Retinal Atrophy (rdAc-PRA)

8. For SIA, KOR, BUR: Gangliosidosis type 1 and type 2 (GM1 and GM2)

9. For all breeds: Blood group testing

Motivation:

The field of cat genetics is growing and every year new tests are developed. This list serves as a

guideline for which hereditary diseases there are available tests. However, we want to emphasise

that even though a cat tests negative for a certain mutation it is no guarantee that it will not fall ill,

only that it does not carry that particular mutation.
