ANNE HUDSON
A talented finger painter
Once again had a nice mail about Anne. Sooooo very welcome. This "exhibition" is getting quit unique, don't you think? "Hi Maud
I enjoyed seeing the Anne Hudson paintings on your site and have attached a photo of the painting I have. I bought it roughly 1974/75,when I was showing my first Persian kitten in the neuter section, an Odd Eyed White called Fortina Solitaire. I think it was at the Notts and Derby Championship show. Whilst wandering around the stalls waiting for the results and to be permitted back into the show hall I came across the painting of an Odd Eyed white and obviously bought it. I have a feeling it only cost a couple of pounds. I never managed to find this sort of painting again although I went to many many shows over the years
Hope you like it, I most certainly enjoy it

Hi Maud
I just came across your website today when I was looking up Anne out of curiosity.
I inherited this picture from my mother. I believe she bought it in the early 60s. It always hung in the hallway during my childhood and teens. I loved the simplicity of line and the way the cats tails wind together.
When it was passed on to me my youngest daughter fell for it too, so I had it reframed as unfortunately the original frame had got a bit damaged. it is now in pride of place in her bedroom.
I hope you would like to add this to your online collection.
best regards, KayWhite
Thank you Maud, That was lovely to see it with the other pieces. I cannot believe it was that long ago that I sent it to you.
Love your cats by the way...I have 2 myself at the moment, an aging tortoiseshell moggy and a 2 year old ginger and white Maine Coon.
Both very demanding in their own way. lol
Best wishes, Kay
Dear Maud,
This small Siamese cat painted with not much touches, so simple and so nice and cute, catched my eye in 2005 in one Salvation Army shop in Queenstown, New Zealand.
I used to photograph wildlife and I love animals so I couldn't resist and bought it for few NZ Dollars.
As I had along several years in Brazil an small framerie, I also truly enjoy to see and touch its elegant golden color oak frame.
Along the years, I moved to Wanaka and now in Christchurch, keeping it and always wondering who is that talented cat painter ?
Finally, today the Google showed me your beautiful site and now I am happy to know Anne Hudson, thanks to your lovely job. Well done Maud!
And thanks to Romilly Hudson sharing with us the memory of Anne.
Some people leave really nice things in our World, causing an sequence of so good feelings that is shared and forwarded, so is Anne artwork.
And some people are incredibly perceptive of talent and beauty as you Maud are.
Attached I am sending a picture of Anne's painting and a picture of the back Framer seal, that is Charles & Co. Pembridge Frameries, London.
In few weeks I will move back to Brazil to restart study and, sure, this small cat will be in my luggage!
Maybe, some day in the future, some Museum or Cat Society could make a tribute to Anne with an exhibition off her artwork ?! If so, I will be pleased to lend "my" Anne small siamese cat painting. But for now, sure the Maud's virtual exhibition off Anne Hudson is an fantastic opportunity to share the Anne lovely memory.
A huge thank you Maud. /Regards, /Alex |

Hello Maud,
A short message from The Netherlands. I bought this painting in a recycle store today.
I already saw it Saturday, but couldn't get it out of my head... 😉
So I bought it this morning. I found your page looking on the Internet for information about Anne Hudson. She made beautiful paintings. I also love de chalk paintings.
I'll hang it somewhere everybody can enjoy it! Bye, bye!!!
It costs € 7,50. A bargain!! 😊 |
Dear Maud
I bought my painting fairly recently and found your website whilst trying to discover something about the artist. I have to admit that, until I saw Pauls "orange" painting I didn't think any on your website resembled mine. Again, mine is also a bit different from the usual. It is much more detailed and elaborate than the others. It makes your eye travel around trying to see where one cat ends and another begins. Do you know whether it's because its an earlier work perhaps? or it it just a different style? Wishing you all the very best.

Hello in the 40s my dad was in a pub somewhere in England and Anne was trying to sell her art. My dad bought these and they are in Seal Beach , California.

I came across your website whilst researching Anne Hudson.
I thought I’d share with you a photo of a picture I’ve had for the last 35ish years. I absolutely love it and could never consider parting with it. I bought it an an auction for the princely sum of £10!

Hi Maud,
I found your website from a Google search. I was trying to find some information about the artist, Anne Hudson.
I was given these two paintings around 10 years when i was living in the UK. They have moved around with me on my travels and now reside with me in Switzerland.
It's lovely to read such kind words about Anne, and it has built a great image in my mind of her.
I'm not looking to sell my paintings, I love them. They are hung in my hallway on display for everyone to see. I realize Anne was a finger painter, her work is so unique and original I really love it.
Thank you for sharing.

Dear Maud,
I came across your website after trying to find out more about Anne Hudson and her work and thought you might be interested in seeing my Anne Hudson picture so I have attached a photo of it with this email.
My Father purchased the picture in the early 1960's at an event in London where Anne was selling her work. It hung in the family home as I was growing up. Earlier this year my Father let me have the picture which was still in its original white wood frame with Anne's name, a London address and a Soho phone number written in pencil on the back. Sadly the glass was touching the image and causing damage, so I had the picture reframed as you see it now. It is hanging in my study and I love it.
Thank you for creating your website and for sharing the pictures and messages from people who also own and love her work.
Kind regards, Sarah
Hi Maud,
I’ve just come across your website of Anne Hudson’s pictures and thought you might like to add another one to your collection.
I bought it as a present for my wife around 1957, from an art shop in Kingston-on-Thames in Surrey, England. It has been with us now for 60 years, and currently hangs in our house in Dorset. It’s amazing to see so many of her cat drawings all in one place.
Best wishes from Malcolm and Iris.

Dear Maud
Attached below is a photograph of a small Anne Hudson painting, the frame is only 6" X 10", which my mother bought in January 1964 while the family visited London from Adelaide, Australia. My mother, sister and I were walking past the railings at Hyde Park and Anne had a stall on the footpath from which she was selling her paintings. We had a much adored Siamese cat waiting for us to return home to Adelaide so we were all immediately drawn to this painting. I remember Anne quite vividly. She had long grey hair and was quite exotically dressed. The painting went home to Adelaide a few weeks later. It came with us when we returned to live in Somerset in 1968 and then went back to Australia in 1970, but to Canberra this time. From Canberra it went in 1988 to a beautiful little coastal town, Malua Bay in New South Wales, returning to Canberra in 2002. Sadly, my mother died in 2011 and I am now the proud owner and it's still here in Canberra. The little painting has now been loved by us for 52 years. It reminds me constantly not only of my darling Mum, but also the parade of beautiful Siamese cats that brought my family so much love over the years.
Thank you for your website. It was such a delight to discover it and to see so many of Anne's other paintings. She was so talented but I had no idea she was so prolific.
Best wishes, Moiya Ford |

We are moving house and packing up our pictures. I decided to see if there was anything about this picture which has been in our family since the 60's and which my parents brought to Adelaide South Australia when we emigrated in 1964. We have always had cats and I love the characters of the cats in the picture. It will be coming to our new house with us.
Thank you for the information and images on your website, it was good to find out more about Anne Hudson.

Good morning Maud,
I have just found your website whilst trying to find some information about Anne Hudson. I fell in love with one of her paintings at a boot fair in Sissinghurst, Kent this morning and had to have it!
I am now the very proud owner of 4 more black cats! 😊
Best regards, Emma Cooper
Good evening Maud,
I got in touch with you recently as I was delighted to find an Anne Hudson cat painting at a local boot fair and I wanted to know more about the artist.
I know that many people get in touch with you about her art, so I was wondering if you would keep me in mind if anyone has one of Anne's horse paintings for sale? I recently missed out on one that I wanted to buy for a friend for Christmas.
I may also be interested in any of her other cats paintings for myself. The one I bought reminds me of one of my own cats and I'd love to find any matching my others!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Best regards, Emma Cooper
Hi Maud,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm glad my painting could be included on your website.
I do look around for other paintings, but haven't managed to buy another yet. They do come up on Ebay periodically, but I haven't yet had a winning bid! It cheers me that her Anne Hudson's paintings are still popular though!
Best regards, Emma
hello
we too have an Anne Hudson - we do not know how old it is but we have had it for many years, it hangs in our kitchen...it is quite large - approximately the width of a door frame...we love it ... apologies for the reflections in the glass but various attempts have been made to photograph it and all show some reflection, and we do not want to remove it from the frame as it is chalk and we are not sure whether or not it may smudge with
kindest regards
picture submitted "In loving memory of much missed tabby Herbert Sherbert [ aka Mister Wibbs ] 1991-2013"
he was a special cat - very loving and gentle - my lady's constant companion - he was our eldest cat & died at lunchtime today [he was 22 and a half] ... i was up pretty much all last night with him and all morning cuddling him in the garden in the sun trying to keep him warm and all that - but he was just too old and passed away ... at least I was with him, and he died at home which is what we wanted and not at the vets - I was with him all the time [which was nice held his paw and stroking his ears 'cos he likes that ... he was also full of love and had a heart of gold and so that is how he shall be remembered - my lady misses him terribly as well of course - I have an old carriage lamp burning for him in the garden tonight ...ho hum - poor old Wibbs :(
