En hyllning till Mors Dag

Sista söndagen i maj firar man Mors dag i Sverige. Seden kommer ursprungligen från USA där lärarinnan Ann Jarvis i Philadelphia 1907 lanserade denna dag till minne av sin egen mor. I Europa togs firandet först upp av Storbritannien och de skandinaviska länderna. I Sverige firade man första gången Mors dag 1919 på initiativ av Cecilia Bååth-Holmberg. I USA är det andra söndagen i maj som är Mors dag.

A tribute to Mothers Day

The last sunday in May in Sweden is Mothers Day. The tradition originally comes from USA where the teacher Ann Jarvis in Philadelphia in 1907 launched this day as a memory of her own mother. In Europe the celebration was first made in GB and Scandinavia. In Sweden the first Mothers Day was 1919 by the inititative of Cecilia Bååth-Holmberg. In USA Mothers Day is the second sunday in May.
